Is the movie/story, ';A haunting in Connecticut'; a true story?

I read on Wikipedia the story is not true. Snopes did not have an answer for me.Is the movie/story, ';A haunting in Connecticut'; a true story?
The new film ';The Haunting in Connecticut'; tells the story of the Snedeker family, who in 1986 rented an old house in Southington, Connecticut. Allen and Carmen Snedeker moved in with their daughter and three young sons. While exploring their new home, Carmen found strange items in the basement: tools used by morticians.

My boyfriend is from Connecticut, and he knows the story, and he's so sick of hearing about this new movie b/c it's SO blown out of proportion.

He even went to this thing where Ed and Lorrraine Warren talked about the houses they investigated, and the movie is so blown up. As per what someone said below, the Warren's aren't full of sh*t, the Snedeker family was. Each person had different stories to tell and none of them ever matched up and even the Warren's said, ';this is BS, it's not true..';

That's why the movie says ';BASED'; on a true story. IE: Highly embellished to make a creepy horror.

I think if you do some research you can find the episode about this event that aired on the Discovery Channel's show ';A Haunting.'; and it's very different from the movie.

It is NOT based on the Discovery Channel's episode on the show ';A Haunting.'; That show made the re-enactment of the real events.

Also, don't believe everything you see and hear. IE: Mrs. Edward Cullen, just because it says it's ';based on true events'; doesn't make the movie true at all. Basically they found out that the people in this house made up that entire story, since the members of that family had stories that never matched or added up. Basically all that's ';true'; in this movie is the town it happened in and what they found in the basement. Everything else, complete fiction.Is the movie/story, ';A haunting in Connecticut'; a true story?
Yes, I agree most was made up, fiction , looney ppl trying to make a buck.....

I have to tell you though, last night I watched it and I first was scared and then I cried and then at the end I was happy.weird huh? I dont believe rapes and all those bad things happened.

its based on true events. the haunting part is true, but the whole bodies in the walls part isnt. now, the real ppl (warrens) who investigated this are known to be full of s**t, it is known through out the community or paranormal investigators that they are a hoax. that doesnt mean that all of the supposed 麓real麓story is fake, it just means that its likely alot was made up.
It's based on a Discovery Channel show A Haunting, in which they talk to people who have experienced supernatural things and they show re-enactments. I guess it's up to whether or not you believe in ghosts, but supposedly it actually happened.
Dont trust wikipedia, people like you aqnd me can change it easily, and yes, yes it is.
It is based on a true story

it says so in the previews
